Description of Business-Event Management
This degree is designed to produce future leaders for the special events sector. It emphasises the application of theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed for the effective management of events.
It provides you with many career options by combining a solid business degree – encompassing areas such as accounting, marketing, business law, entrepreneurship and economics – with specialised professional studies related to the management and delivery of special events such as project management, arts and community festivals, meetings, conferences and tradeshows as well as the opportunity to plan, deliver and evaluate student led events. Industry/community participation is actively encouraged.
This course also develops your knowledge of sustainability issues and how they affect the organisation of community events. We place a particular focus on the development of entrepreneurship, which is vital for the promotion and success of professional, sporting, cultural and community events.
To build practical experience, you'll have the chance to plan, deliver and evaluate student-led events on and off campus, and work with our industry partners throughout your degree.
You can choose to complete a second major in sport management, human resource management, or tourism and hospitality to complement your studies and extend your career options. Alternatively you could take an elective subject in tourism, hospitality, international tourism, volunteer management or even complete a study tour overseas.
